The Intercolligate Horse Show Association (IHSA) is a great organization that provides students with the chance to compete in horse shows without the usual expenses of owning a horse and show tack. All of the horses and tack are provided by the hosting school which makes IHSA a great option for many riders who would otherwise not be able to afford to compete.
It is NOT required that you have your own horse to join our team or compete.
At an IHSA show, the horses are already warmed up for the riders. Right before the rider's class they will draw a horse that has been appropriately matched with the level of skill of the class. The rider will then compete in their class with the horse that they have drawn and never ridden before. The rider is being judged solely on how they ride, not how the horse performs. The top six riders from each class will be awarded points as follows:
1st place= 7 points
2nd place= 5 points
3rd place= 4 points
4th place= 3 points
5th place= 2 points
6th place= 1 point
A rider's points will added up throughout the course of the shows and help them to point up to the next class. The classes for IHSA shows are:
English:
Class 1- Walk, Trot Equitation
Class 2A- Beginning Walk, Trot, Canter
Class 2B- Advanced Walk, Trot, Canter
Class 3- Novice Equitation on the Flate
Class 4- Novice Equitation over fences
Class 5- Intermediate Equitation on the Flat
Class 6- Intermediate Equtiation over Fences
Class 7- Open Equitation on the Flate
Class 8- Open Equitation over Fences
Class 9- Alumni Equitation on the Flat
Class 10- Alumni Equitation over Fances
Western:
Class 11- Beginner Western Horsemanship
Class 12A- Intermediate Western Horsemanship I
Class 12B- Intermediate Western Horsemanship II
Class 13A- Novice Western Horsemanship I
Class 13B- Novice Western Horsemanship II
Class 14- Advanced Horsemanship
Class 15- Open Horsemanship
Class 16- Open Reining
Class 17- Alumni Horsemanship
Class 18- Alumni Reining
